The wonders of singing in Devon and Cornwall

Another fantastic month with September starting off for the Old Gaffers at Teignmouth Shanty Festival all weekend. The large crowds and blue skies at this beautiful south Devon coastal town made for a magical time for all.

After some real fun weddings at Thurstone and Bentham during this month we then sang at Port Isaac Shanty Festival with the Fisherman’s Friends and several other shanty crews, great fun and the very best of north Cornwall beautiful coastline was very much on show..

The final act for the month was to sing farewell to our much respected and loved Old Gaffer , Roger who departed this world for an even better place , perhaps flying as an albatross high in the sky….Row On Row On.

Old Gaffers sing to over 10,000 at the burning of the Mayflower

What an amazing month August has been for the Old Gaffers with some great gigs and festivals around our wonderful West Country including , Kingswear on the River Dart , Salcombe Sailing Festival , Weston Super Mare Festival , and various exotic weddings with so many happy people.

The most memorable gig for us , perhaps ever , was our last one of August…..Great Torrington Cavaliers Mayflower 400 Bonfire and Pyromusical celebrations. The Old Gaffers performed to over 10,000 people with the whole crowd joining in with our last five songs which were displayed on the giant screen…….What A Night…

Great singalong by ALL

An amazing night at Pyworthy near Holsworthy at The Old Rectory estate with Here Design, a top design company from London who took all their staff on a three day post COVID “Family “ get together……which of course was made complete having the Old Gaffers to restore singing around the camp fire.
All took part in many songs as we provided them with our chorus sheets so they could sing along and just finally feel “Free” again.Fantastic night and well done Here Design for putting on a wonderful three days for your staff.

Great gig in Torquay.LIVE

“Just wanted to say a massive thank you again for an absolutely fabulous evening on Thursday.Everyone loved it and you guys were brilliant!.I hope you have a great season ahead and hopefully see and hear you again somewhere!.Thank you”..Becky from Torquay who booked us for her dad’s 80th birthday, for the 3rd June.

Old Gaffers are stirring

Great afternoon at the Cottage Hotel, Hope Cove(sadly closed at the moment) to record and film our song for the Falmouth’s Virtual Sea Shanty Festival 2021 on the 19 June. This fantastic International festival raises a large sum of money each year for the RNLI.

Great news we shall hopefully be singing again live as from the 21June this year and already have many bookings which we are very excited about and hope lockdowns rules continue to progress and allow us the freedom to enjoy this summer with our wonderful audiences

Falmouth Virtual Sea Shanty Festival is on at 6pm, do try and catch it.

Hope to see you soon
